Microsoftricity SoftGrid

I passed the exam for the Softricity Certified Professional exam back in March (2006) and then not long after that Microsoft snapped up Softricity. That essentially meant that until today, we’ve not been able to push the SoftGrid product to help our customers solve some very real problems. I think today’s announcement from Microsoft is good news and I’m keen to check out the Group Policy (from DesktopStandard, those tools were always fantastic) and Diagnostics and Recovery tools (from Winternals) too.

Of course, application virtualisation is solving issues that are caused by developers in the first place, but this technology is pretty cool in action. If you haven’t already seen any type of application virtualisation on Windows and you can’t get a hold of SoftGrid, check out Altiris SVS. It has a free personal edition and is great for running Office 2003 and Office 2007 on the same machine.
